Enduro + Gravity

In a first for 2008, Bright Orange Events is bringing enduro to Downhill!

That’s right, the first ever 8 Hours of Downhill will be held at the Lithgow Lidsdale track on Saturday the 9th of February, 2008.

How will it work? Below are the answers to all of the questions we can think of. No doubt you’ll have more, feel free to email or call us and we’ll do our best to explain this brand new concept!

Your Team

Teams of two or three riders – it’s entirely up to you - will compete in the event, team categories available are:

  • Elite Men

  • Open Women

  • Sport Men

  • Open Mixed

  • Open Veterans (average age of all riders over 35)

  • Juniors (all riders still at school)

8 Hours?

We’ll have the course open for 8 hours, and during this time each rider in your team to complete their 2 mandatory runs on each track. We’ll be limiting the riders at the event to ensure there’s actually time for each rider to complete 8 or more runs, so you’ll certainly have the opportunity to repeat your slowest runs and try and improve on them!

The Race & Timing

There’ll be three tracks, and each rider will have to complete 2 runs on each course to qualify for the results (this is an enduro after all!). Your results will be calculated by adding up each riders’ two fastest runs on each course. Teams of 2 will have their times averaged to create a third member.

The Tracks

We’ll be using the three great downhill tracks at Lidsdale, simultaneously. For those yet to ride these tracks, they’re rideable by almost anyone and yet they’re still enjoyable and challenging for the elite riders in the sport. These tracks were used at the Lithgow round of the 2007 State Downhill Series, and over 200 riders had a great day of racing. Each track for elite riders is around a minute, and the push back up is an easy one, and a great time to explain to your team-mates exactly why you were faster than them on the last run!

Equipment

Your bike and a full face helmet will be mandatory, body armour is encouraged but not mandatory. What bike should you bring? That’s entirely your call, we’ve seen riders on hardtails enjoy these courses, we’ve seen riders on massive DH rigs post some amazing times too! Most people seem to sit somewhere in the middle, but of course you’re welcome to bring two (or more) bikes and decide on the day which is best for you.

Prizes, atmosphere and more

We’ll have great prizes from our sponsors for the winners at the end of the day, prizes throughout the day, music pumping throughout the forest, and much much more!

The after party

We'll announce it shortly!
